Wbg unveils bold growth ambitions signalling new era of opportunity and talent investment

The ambitious growth strategy of Wbg to double its fee income to £30m in three years and £50m in five has fuelled a record trainee intake, investment in career development and a targeted recruitment drive across its business.

Last month saw a doubling of the normal trainee intake joining the firm, one of Scotland’s leading independent specialist full-service accountants, underlining its investment in emerging talent to support its growth. This year has also seen a record number of promotions across all levels from trainee to partner.

Victoria Kirkhope, Partner - Head of People & Culture at Wbg, said that investment in talent sits at the heart of the firm’s growth strategy.

With an emphasis on a skills-based mindset and recruiting for potential, Wbg has expanded entry-level hiring while channelling investment into its core service teams at all levels alongside investment in technology solutions to enhance the client experience.

Recent recruitment efforts have also centred on strategic senior hires with further appointments in the pipeline to strengthen key services and extend the firm’s reach across priority geographies.

“Alongside that, we’ve invested heavily in creating an environment where people can chart their own career journeys,” Kirkhope commented.

“Our commitment to early-stage training and continuous professional development is helping us lay out clear, transparent career paths for everyone in the business.”

Wbg’s people agenda is underpinned by high-profile leadership appointments including last month’s appointments of Garry Clarke, former Finance Director & Chief Operating Officer at Localist, as Chief Financial Officer and former Tesco Bank boss Benny Higgins as Chair, with more senior hires expected in the months ahead.

“The changes we have put in place mean Wbg has evolved into a launchpad for ambitious careers,” said Kirkhope.

“We are identifying key talent at all levels from school leavers to senior executives who will see Wbg as the key step in their career journey.

“At Wbg you will find the support, opportunities and culture to unlock your full potential and shape the future of becoming one of the UK’s leading professional services organisations. We’re very excited about the future and the talented individuals that will help us deliver what comes next.”
