Benny Higgins
ChairFew people in Scottish business have operated at the level Benny has, or across as many of its defining moments.
His career in financial services took him from Standard Life to RBS, where he led the retail integration of NatWest, to HBOS, before taking the helm at Tesco Bank in 2008. Over a decade, he built it from a standing start to a bank serving eight million customers with a team of over 5,000 people.
In 2017, the Scottish Government asked him to develop the implementation plan for the Scottish National Investment Bank – a role that led to his appointment as strategic adviser to the First Minister, and as chair of the government’s advisory group on economic recovery following COVID-19.
At Wbg, he brings the perspective of someone who has built institutions, advised governments and navigated some of the most complex decisions in modern Scottish business.
